Doing things on the cheap my save you a few dollars but a headache surely awaits you down the road.

This month, as we turn the page to a new year, I’d like you to really think about what projects around your home you’d like to do as the year goes on. Once you’ve come up with a list you can then begin to prioritize and budget accordingly. Have a plan and plan ahead. You will avoid the pitfall that so many homeowners fall into of not being prepared for a remodel or renovation.

Anyone who has ever done any type of work to their home will tell you things always take longer than they expected and cost more than anticipated. Keep that in mind as you plan and budget. Something that most people will also tell you is that they wished they would have upgraded some of the items they skimped on. I’ve said before and I’ll say it again – you get what you pay for. Whether it is paint or plumbing, there is a reason product “A” costs twice as much as product “B”. Remember to take a realistic approach and not go overboard on upgrades. If you own a home in the area and plan on moving in the next few years, installing a new expensive tile roof is not likely your best solution. You will not get your money back on your investment.

All to often weekend warriors and do-it-yourselfers would benefit if they used higher quality products. During installation of new flooring it is typically easier to install the better grade products than the lower grade, and thus the installation will go smoother and render better results.

Save yourself the headache and money of having to redo a project that doesn’t stand the test of time. Do it right the first time. If you have questions, ask a professional in that field. A contractor with a valid license has a wealth of knowledge and hands on experience that can prove to be priceless.

Happy New Year & Good Luck!
