When I started writing this column some 10 years ago, I did so with the intent of helping local restaurants attract some customers especially within our delivery area. There have been a few times when I have had to find creative ways to say nice things about eateries that well…… I had to be creative. Okay there has been a time or two when I have had to make places that rivaled my High School cafeteria sound like Morton’s of Chicago, but it was all in the name of neighborhood commerce. However, this month was truly different.
Earlier this week I ate at Jee’s Pot restaurant and bar. Yeah, I know, and as Forrest Gump would say, “that’s all I have to say about that.” Name or not in this column I do not have to exaggerate one bit about the food. Jee’s Pot is a local single owner owned restaurant. Jee’s Pot serves Vietnamese and Chinese food. In our area there simply is no restaurant of any ethnicity that serves better food. I would also go as far as to say it is as good as any place of its kind in the greater Sacramento area. And if great Vietnamese and Chinese food were not reason enough to go on Friday and Saturday night they have karaoke. I am serious about the karaoke and even more so about the food. If you don’t like the food at Jee’s Pot you should be banned from eating and fined for your stupendously bad taste.
I pulled up to Jee’s in my 2003 Hyundai (sweet I know) and honestly did not expect I would soon belly up to such a sumptuous feast. I started my meal special pho-pho dac biet. I have no idea what that means other than wow this is the perfect soup to start your meal with.
For an appetizer I had spring rolls, foil-wrapped chicken and Sacramento’s best pot stickers. I realize I went a little heavy on the appetizers for one but I’m trying to put on my winter coat. If you like spring rolls you will love Jee’s. The foil- wrapped chicken was the best I have had since the demise of the Coral Reef over ten years ago, and oh the pot stickers.
I then went on to fried rice. I do not believe the special Singapore rice is on the menu, but be sure to ask for it – mmmmmmmmmmmm, good. Lemon grass chicken rounded out one of the best meals North Highlands has seen.
I am looking forward to my next trip to Jee’s Pot cause I have barely scratched the surface of what’s on the menu. On top of all that I can tell my Hyundai is itchin to go back. Jee’s Pot also offers a banquet room that holds 40 (with private karaoke). Jee’s is located at 5605 Watt Ave.
Of course next month will be my special Valentines column. After all love is in the air, or perhaps that is just me burping up the pho dac biet.
