Everyone who gets behind the wheel of a car knows they are risking their lives, the lives of innocent people, and a loss of freedom when they ignore the Driving Under the Influence (DUI) laws.
DUI is an offense that pays no mind to geographic, economic or ethnic differences.
Repeat offenders are a continual source of frustration for law enforcement. However, the Sacramento County Probation Department has taken steps to reduce the number of repeat offenders on our roads thanks to an Office of Traffic Safety Grant which funds an intensive supervision program for the worst offenders.
Anyone placed on probation for DUI will be supervised by the County Probation Department. What’s different with the intensive program is that those who are egregious re-offenders are visited at home, weekly, by a probation officer. The officer checks to ensure the probationer is not driving nor drinking, attending their court ordered rehabilitation counseling and adhering to their requirements to fulfill their probation. The goal is keep the offenders in compliance or held accountable and rearrested for violation of probation among other offenses.
This hands-on approach and the intense frequency of the supervision are keeping our roads safer. In 2007, Probation arrested more than 60 DUI offenders, many for violation of their probation as well as fresh arrests during warrant sweeps and DUI roadside checkpoints.
Keep yourself and family safe this winter and don’t risk driving under the influence in Sacramento County.
Happy New Year!!!!
