I trust you all had a Merry Christmas and are now in the throws of a hap hap happy New Year. My main goal this New Year is to dine at least once at Biba's. Next on my list would be to run a 10-minute mile. If I only reach the Biba goal I shant have any regrets.
While many of you are on the Internet looking for a good New Years fitness center deal so you can start on your resolution to lose weight, you may not be in the mood to read about dining out. But come March when you are no longer using your gym membership (yet still bitterly paying for it), you may be glad you did not swear off my column.
Don't you all take me too serious, I'm just funin ya. Truly I want to help in your quest to lose some elbeez. (pounds). So the feature restaurant in my 1st article of oheight (08) is none other than The World Buffet in the Bel Air shopping center on Walerga in Antelope. Hey it could be worse, I was considering doing a write up on Dunkin Donuts.
Listen if we are going to get this weight loss thing right, you might as well put your will power to the test by getting in front of a Buffet. And then slide away from the mashed potatoes and headed over to the salad bar. It happens to be located conveniently next to the sushi bar.
The World Buffet was previously Smaak's. the biggest difference between the 2 is $5.00. Dinner at Smaak’s was $14.99 where as The WB is only $9.99. And quite frankly the food has improved.
As the name suggests, dishes from all over the globe are represented at World Buffet. Several Asian, Mexican and European offerings are ah, offered. The food is of a much higher quality than your average buffet. I especially enjoyed the mussels. World buffet is not as kid friendly (thank God) as say the Hometown Buffet. You will however find enough youthful choices to keep the kids happy should you decide to take them.
You will certainly enjoy the food at WB but I was especially impressed with the ambiance, World Buffet is a very pleasant place to eat. Considering the lack of shall we say "nicer" restaurants in the North Highlands – Antelope area, it is nice to have a place near by with atmosphere that matches the food. I could however do without the "classic rock" being pumped in over the house speakers. There is just something about ZZ TOPS LE GRANGE that didn’t flow with sushi and fried rice.
Like soy sauce on a cupcake, going to a buffet while trying to lose weight may appear counter productive. But then again what is it that makes life exciting but if not its many challenges.
In conclusion let us not lose throughout the year that feeling of gratefulness and goodwill that is so often associated with the Holiday season. As I reflect on all I have to be grateful for I am reminded of those less fortunate. You see one day I noticed a hole in my shoe and I was sad. Then I met a man who had no feet. Then one morning I looked in the mirror and noticed I was loosing my hair. Again I was sad until I met a man who had no head. Mmmm it actually gives the cupcake a little zip.
