The Search Dog Foundation is located in Southern California in a small town called Ojai, which is also the home town of the Six Million Dollar Man from TV’s past. This foundation is one of the GFWC California Federation of Women’s Club’s special projects. This is a very special school for dogs. During the 9-11 tragedy, these were the courageous dogs that many people provided doggy boots. Most all of these dogs are rescued themselves from SPCA’s and county shelters. Duncan, a search dog was sent to Ojai by the Placer County SPCA and Jezzie was sent to Ojai by Daisy Dog Rescue here in Sacramento.

Please check out the Search Dog Foundation on-line at www.searchdogfoundation.com. There is a special section called "meet the search dogs". You will want to visit this section and meet Ace and Ana two search dogs here in the Sacramento area. Ana was originally to be a assistance dog to help the disabled but she had too much energy for that job and was sent to the newly formed Search Dog Foundation were she became the very first search dog from this new foundation. She works with Rick Lee, A Sacramento Metro Fire Department Captain. Read more about Ana and the other dogs on the Foundations web-site.

Gypsy, a Border Collie was at a GFWC California Federation of Women’s Club State meeting. She was amazing! She is owned by Tom Carey, a Bay Area Firefighter. She received a large sized box of dog bones for her pay that day. The training of one dog is at least $10,000. That’s where our GFWC Women’s Clubs have helped. The Clubs raise thousands of dollars each year to help pay for the training of these dogs. Would you like to help? Join the GFWC Antelope-North County Women’s Club. Our next meeting is February 9th at the Perko’s Café on Watt Ave at 1:30 pm. You can also check us out at
