It doesn’t take long to look around and notice the changes in and around the North Highlands community. There has been much talk over the recent months of all the upcoming, new businesses that will be opening in the near future. Well, 2008 lends to stay on course with this action.
As you know, the planning of these expansions as well as building these new businesses is quite a process, one that takes a significant amount of time. Our plan is to keep the community as up to date as possible as to what they have to look forward to in their community.
The first to open their doors is Walgreens opening February 1, 2008. Walgreens is located on the northwest corner of Watt Avenue and Elkhorn Boulevard. Walgreens is a full service drug store with a number of services that will be a benefit to many of our neighbors.
Currently, in the planning stages is a Super WalMart. This is scheduled to go into the old Cargo Largo building on Watt Avenue, just south of Roseville Road. This would be a great benefit to our community providing everything from household needs as well as a supermarket at great prices.
Just down from the North Area Community Service Center you will see that we have the new Village Café. This will offer great breakfast and lunches to both our businesses and residents throughout the community.
The Watt Towne Shopping Center, on the corner of Watt Avenue and Elkhorn Boulevard is one of three major developments currently under way. Among the new businesses will be the Watt Towne Foods and Starbucks. Watt Towne Foods will offer a full service grocery store, while we all know the joy of having a Starbucks close by.
Just on the other side of the Watt Towne Shopping Center plans are under way for a 200 unit housing development, which will include a senior housing facility. This will be built on 12 acres of the undeveloped lot along Elkhorn Boulevard.
North Highlands continues to develop and grow into a thriving community. We have awesome schools, churches, places to shop, restaurants to enjoy a meal out, as well as our Community Center offering numerous activities for kids, adults and seniors. The continued effort and support of our community leaders is appreciated as they continue to make things happen within our community.
