What do Mary J. Blige, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and 50 Cent all have in common? Allegedly, it is steroid use. According to a CNN news report some of raps biggest names are on the juice. Does this mean that now when their CDs hit the charts they will have to have an asterisk for using pharmaceutically-enhanced rhymes? Here, all this time I thought steroid use was exclusively for athletes -- apparently I was wrong. Who knows how many other industries this drug has slipped into in the name of “gaining the competitive edge?” Hey, if 50 Cent would stoop to this, can I really be sure that my accountant, librarian or neighborhood florist aren’t hittin’ the HGH as well?
What does any of this have to do with restaurants? Well come on now, with all the stars and big money that have come from the Food Network, is there a more competitive field than that of CHEF? In the quest to become the next Emeril Lagasse or Rachael Ray, some would surely sell their soul. Let’s face it, how fast you whisk the sauce or mince the garlic could mean the difference between landing a job as the new Head Chef at an upscale downtown bistro and winding up as a fry cook at the corner Denny’s. Let us move on.
Well, I did have a tasty lunch at a quaint little joint I would like to tell you about. Wing Stop is located at 4400 Elverta Road right off Walerga Road in Antelope. You might be shocked to hear they specialize in wings. Yes, and a wide variety of wings at that: Original hot, Cajun, lemon pepper, garlic parmesan, Hawaiian and more. Of course they offer what are referred to as Atomic wings. You know the type, you take a bite, your head explodes and the authorities track you down in six different counties. Yum.
I sampled several different types of wings and not surprisingly they were all excellent. You can also go boneless with the sauce on the side.
Yes, the wings were great but I was equally impressed with the sides. Fantastic fresh cut fries which were great on their own or dipped in one of their homemade sauces. I could have consumed a vat of the Bourbon Baked Beans.
Wing Stop is a casual order at the counter place as you might expect. However, I was very impressed with the friendly, happy and helpful employees. If you want to place a wing order for the Super Bowl the phone number is 725-WING. I also recommend Wing Stop for Valentines Day. All you need is a little Barry White, some red roses and Atomic wings? Let the fireworks begin!
