Twin Rivers Unified School District has collected 20,484 canned goods and other non-perishable food to help stock the shelves of three local food pantries as they head into the holiday season. That’s double what students and staff collected last year during Trick or Treat for Hunger. The community outreach project took place Oct. 5-23 to help the North Highlands Christian Food Ministry, the TLC Soup Kitchen in Del Paso Heights and the Rio Linda/Elverta Ministerial Association Food Closet. Forty-two schools—from elementary to adult education—participated in this year’s food drive.
