Last month I had mentioned that there was a chance that this month’s article may not be for the faint of heart. I’ll do my best to tame it down. I’ve spent the last 4 months getting to know the ins and outs of termites and other wood destroying organisms. Not as a personal hobby but for a new career. I’ve been crawling under houses, identifying dry rot, and educating customers on the seriousness of a termite infestation. I will spare you all the graphic details of the things I’ve come across underneath homes. If you’ve never had a termite inspection on your home it is a good idea to have one. Some companies offer free inspections and it is a excellent way for home owners to get a check up of their home.
As a termite inspector you are looking for more than just “termites”, you are looking for any form of wood destroying organism. Wood destroying organisms can be a result of a water leak and unless you make frequent trips under your home you may never know. Water leaks under the home can cause big damage to your flooring, sub floor and the excessive moisture under your home is something that attracts termites. Having your home inspected by a licensed pest control company is something you should consider and may take few calls before you find one that does them for free.
Free Inspections Are Typically Not Intended For Real Estate Purposes
On a closing note, as the cold winter months are upon us, if you have need of a pilot light or furnace/heater that is not working correctly, you can have PG&E or SMUD come out and do a free evaluation for you.
