This is unlike any other holiday charity. Unlike others where you just drop off your toy or gift and forget it without ever knowing to whom or where it went, we invite donors and volunteers to participate in Santa's Workshop by sorting and wrapping gifts. We host shopping parties for all the volunteers to fill the wish lists from each student and their family. We also invite volunteers with us to hand deliver each package door to door with the big delivery trucks and police cars in a Santa Claus style caravan, so they can see the smiles. This is a very fun event where all of our officers bring their families to make this a fun day.
The Twin Rivers Police Department annual OPERATION Christmas sponsors one student and their family from each school. Toys, clothes, school supplies, food and basic necessities are the most common wish requests. With the support of the district, community, local business and corporations, we grant wishes and provide a Christmas dinners complete with a turkey for each family. We granted 47 Christmas family wishes in 2008 and we hope to grant 60 Christmas family wishes in 2009.
