The GFWC Antelope-North Country Women’s Club and the General Federation of Women’s Clubs both proudly support Heifer International. This special organization helps people help themselves by giving them a pair of goats, cows, or even a trio of ducks and chickens. Families all over the world including the USA receive animals, training on care & propagation of these animals and they now have a better life. Why, because they can make a living selling milk, wool or eggs. Each family must also give the gift of an animal or animals to another family so that another family help can also earn a better living. These gifts keep on giving. These animals also help in farming by making the soil better with their droppings. Check out Heifer International at www.heifer.org.
The Heifer Project has won the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian prize in 2004. Walter Cronkite said "Heifer is unique in its program to directly aid people around the world. ... With this project you get a much greater sense of a person-to-person relationship, which is very important.” Brad Whitford and his wife Jane Kaczmarek are strong supporters of the Heifer Project. On one episode of the “West Wing,” the President, played by Martin Sheen; had his picture taken with a goat in support of Heifer International. Whitford says “With a gift of a Heifer International animal, it is not just giving money away to some vast organization that you hope is going to trickle down to the people who need it. You are giving a living, breathing, breeding gift, so that you know exactly what it is that participants in Heifer programs around the world are going to get, and you know it's going to change their lives dramatically.
