Hi, my name is Jim Simpson. I’m very involved with the North Highlands community. One of the projects I’m involved with is fundraising for the local parade committee at the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4647.
This is the third year I’ve been doing this. As you are aware, chasing money down is always a difficult task no matter how good the cause. Fortunately for me I’ve come to know and be known by many local community members. Working with and developing a rapport with these various people and companies has helped make a lasting relationship which makes it very easy to ask for donations for such a good cause as the annual Memorial Day Parade sponsored and run by the local VFW Post 4647. This is also the largest VFW Post in all of California.
I met Marvin Raps when he came to town to be the Store Manager at the Super Wal-Mart in Antelope. He has been very helpful to me and the community that his store serves. I’ve walked through his store on a regular basis and have always found it to be spotlessly clean. Meeting people of Marvin’s nature and dedication to the community is what gives me enjoyment when I volunteer on a regular basis. I would like to thank Marvin and his legion of hard workers for being the largest sponsor of this year’s parade!
At 9:00am, on May 14, 2009, Wal-Mart had a small ceremony with me and a few others from our Post. Marvin presented our Post Commander, Stan Hanson, with a check for $1,000. Chamber President Keith Weber was also present.
