AmeriCorps NCCC Corps Members graduate after completing over 300,000 hours of service

NOT FOUND: they came....jpgAmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps) proudly graduated 296 young adults on Wednesday, July 22nd. These members
just finished up 10 months of national and community service throughout the western most states as well as in the Gulf Coast Region. The graduation ceremony was held at the McClellan Park Theater Pavilion in North Highlands.

The accomplishments of these 296 NCCC members are quite notable and include:

• More than 300,000 hours of service

in 15 states (AL, AK, CA, FL, HI, ID, LA, MS, MT, NV, OR, TX, UT, WA, WY)

• More than 106,000 people/more than 16,000 families assisted in disaster areas in the Gulf Coast and Oregon

• 6,501 elementary school students received 16,871 hours of tutoring

• 9 miles of new hiking trails constructed

• 82 new homes constructed with Habitat for Humanity affiliates and other organizations

• 40 community gardens started or tended

• More than 359,000 pounds of debris or trash removed

• 17 playgrounds constructed or repaired

AmeriCorps NCCC is part of AmeriCorps, a network of national service programs created to improve the environment, enhance education, increase public safety, and assist with disaster relief and other unmet human needs. The Pacific Region campus, located in Sacramento, California, serves Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, Utah, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, the territories of Guam and Samoa, as well as the Gulf Coast Region. The Pacific Region campus is one of four campuses in the United States; the others are located in Perry Point, Maryland; Denver, Colorado and Vinton, Iowa.

NCCC members, 18-24 years of age, must complete at least 1,700 hours of community service during
the 10-month program. In exchange for their service, they receive $4,725 to help pay for college or to pay school loans. Other benefits include leadership development, team building skills, increased self-confidence, and the satisfaction of knowing that they have made a real difference in communities across the country. This year marks the 15th Anniversary of AmericCorps NCCC members leaving their mark throughout the Unite States.
