Raise your hand if you were aware that we are surrounded by parks! I had no idea that there are ten (nine developed and one currently under development) parks in North Highlands and eight in Antelope alone! There are seven in the Rio Linda/Elverta area.

The parks are funded by fees that are included in the purchase price of homes in the area and/or in the development fees of new neighborhoods as they are built.

Most of the parks that have a covered/semi-covered picnic area are available to be reserved for parties. To find out more information, please visit the web site of the respective recreation and parks districts as given below.

(pictured left) 34 acres of park that is home of the Playground of Dreams, new aquatics center sports complex that is shared with Antelope High School. There is a second phase of renovation planned for this complex in the future, once funds become available that will bring in an amphitheater, more restrooms, parking and picnic areas.

Sports Complex (Aquatics Center) – 3701 Stephen Drive

Home to the largest adult flag football program in northern California.

Strizek Park & Clubhouse – 3829 Stephen Drive

Five acres with Aladdin’s Palace playground, swings and sand play area. . This was the very first park in the district!

Karl Rosario Park – corner of Karl Drive & Rosario Blvd.

2.5 acre park with open, turfed play area. Covered picnic area.

Larchmont Park – corner of Thomas Drive & Varnum Way

2.5 acre park with two playgrounds, a truck for play-driving, swings and sand play area. .

Brock Park Sports Complex – on Antelope Road between Watt & Walerga. This facility is used by the local Babe Ruth League

Chardonnay Park – corner of Cherbourg & La Tour

Three acres with “ship themed” playground, swings and sand play area.

Ridgepoint Park – 4680 Monument Drive (next to Ridgepoint Elementary)

After school hours, the NHRPD maintains the grounds and operates the park, gym and multi-purpose room (cafeteria and recreation center). The softball fields are leased to Antelope Little League.

Planehaven Park – corner of Wings Way & Rockwell

1.5 acre park with swings, slides and sand play area.

Capehart Community Park – located in the Arbors on Navajo

Youth Center is currently operated by “Something Extra Preschool.” The aquatics center is closed for the time being, but there are plans to reopen it in the future after it undergoes renovation. There is a joint use agreement in effect currently with the Center School District.

Freedom Park – located on Freedom Park Drive in McClellan Park

This park is currently under construction for renovation. Renovation should be complete by October 2008. The huge softball complex is currently leased to a private concessionaire.
