The GFWC Antelope-North County Women’s Club is helping the families of our troops over in Iraq. Each month we receive a list of pregnant women who are either in the armed services or whose husbands are in the military. This is a wonderful project called “Operation Top Knot” and we send a baby gift, coupons for baby items and a card to each of the mothers. The “thank you”s are wonderful. Here are some examples: “My son is now 2 months old. My husband is still deployed but was here for R&R when I received some of your packages. Thank you so much.” Another mother writes,”For days packages showed up at my door with the neatest sweetest surprises. It brought tears to my eyes again and again.” Does this seem like a project you might like to help with? Join us; we’d love to have you be a part of our group.

August 9, 2008, the GFWC Antelope-North County Women’s Club will be at the OSH Parking Lot Sale. Look for us in our red GFWC t-shirts. We will have used books for sale as well as our three dollar and ten dollar bracelets. The money will help fund all of our wonderful projects. This year we will have Freedom Ribbons for a dollar. All of us would love to meet you and tell you personally more about our club and our projects. We would love to hear any suggestions for projects in our area. We believe in the saying “think global – act local.”

October 18, 2008, the GFWC Antelope –North County women’s Club will have an open house and “get to know us” meeting at the Antelope/North Highlands library from 1:30 pm until 3pm. We are planning on having some interesting speakers from our club and other clubs in the area. We would love to answer any questions you have about the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, our history and our many projects over the years. The library is the perfect place to have this meeting because GFWC clubs have started 75% of the libraries in our country. GFWC clubs started the first bookmobiles! The GFWC purchased a fully equipped ambulance for the City of New York after 9-11. Please mark your calendars for October 18 at the Library and come and talk to us about what we do. Please feel free to check us out at www.gfwc.org, the international organization website or at www.cfwc.org, the state organization website. E-mail us at antelopeCFWC@comcast.net or call Dori at 332-7133.
